During the history of the town of Surry, there have been five post offices.
Briefly, the history of these five is as follows:
1. East Surry post office opened on 9 February 1872, closed on 31 October 1924, re-opened on 11 March 1926, and closed on 31 May 1930.
2. Saunders post office operated from 19 August 1902 to 31 May 1905.
3. South Surry (1) post office, a private office, operated from 8 April 1836 to 18 September 1839.
4. South Surry (2) post office opened on 18 March 1874, closed on 15 June 1911, re-opened on 21 October 1912, and closed on 31 October 1934.
5. Surry post office was established on 15 June 1812 and is still operating.
In 1914 there were three post offices in Surry: East Surry, South Surry (2), and Surry. (source: Post Route Map of the State of Maine 1914)

The circular postmark is 31–32 mm in diameter. The outside vertical height of the four horizontal bars to the right of the circle is 14 mm.

The circular postmark is approximately 30 mm in diameter. The outside vertical height of the four horizontal bars to the right of the circle is 13 mm.

1934 October 31:
The circular postmark is 32–33 mm in diameter. The outside vertical height of the four horizontal bars to the right of the circle is 18 mm. Note that this is the last day of use for this postmark.
